Valofly took second place in the WRGN Innovation Award
The Göttingen-Northeim Regional Economic Development Agency (WRGN) presents an annual innovation award to companies in the region across three categories. The awards recognize innovative products, services, processes, or business ideas. VALOFLY took second place in the “Companies with up to 20 Employees” category.
The WRGN Innovation Award has been presented for over 20 years and strengthens the innovative capacity of Southern Lower Saxony and the Göttingen/Northeim region as a business location. Participating companies submit their idea or product along with a short video. A jury of business experts and sponsors from the region determines the rankings. The award ceremony took place on November 28, 2024, in Göttingen’s newly renovated City Hall. Under the motto “Shaping the Future Together,” twelve companies were awarded across three categories, ranging from startups to companies with over 20 employees.
With 132 applications, 2024 saw a record number of participants. District Administrator Marcel Riethig emphasized that this undelined the innovative strength of Southern Lower Saxony. Before the awards ceremony, the participating companies had the opportunity to engage with potential partners and guests at small exhibition booths in the foyer of the City Hall.
VALOFLY GmbH took second place in the “Companies with up to 20 Employees” category with an active tethered drone system that provieds networks quickly in emergencies, such as floods. In collaboration with the Triopt Group, VALOFLY GmbH developed an experimental carrier system that carries radio antennas to quickly replace radio masts damaged by flooding, for example. VALOFLY’s rackTether continuously supplies the drone system with power, so the network connection does not have to be interrupted to change the battery. The active tethered system is more portable, faster, and easier to deploy than conventional radio masts for emergencies. Thanks to its rapid deployment, people in distress can make an emergency call before their cell phone battery runs out.
Landrätin Astrid Klinkert-Kittel was particularly pleased that VALOFLY GmbH, a young company from her district, was among the award winners, and she praised the dedication of Managing Director Daniel Stahlmann and his team. In keeping with the motto of “Shaping the Future Together" and creating local jobs, VALOFLY's work is of great relevance to the Northeim district as a business location. In her speech, Klinkert-Kittel stated: “Innovation is the key to the future —for our economy, our society, and our planet. The Innovation Award is not only a seal of quality but also a catalyst for the economic and social development of our region. This year’s record-breaking participation of 132 entries is a proof to our innovative strength. I am particularly pleased that the competition has become even more broadly based through intermunicipal cooperation with the Northeim district as a new partner. For the first time, around 30 participants also took advantage of the opportunity to present themselves in advance at small exhibition booths—a great opportunity for creative exchange and networking. The Innovation Award continues to evolve and makes it clear: Southern Lower Saxony is a place where the future is being shaped.
